Renter Tips & Tutorials

We understand how overwhelming your first few rental appointments can be; this is why we decided to put together a few Tips & Tutorials to help you along the way!

How much time should I reserve?

Your rental time begins at your scheduled start time and ends when you zip off. We recommend coming with your zippers already pinned to your backing, or early enough to pin here before your scheduled start time. If you arrive early and would like to begin before your scheduled start time, your rental appointment then begins when you zip on to the machine.

Below is a table for estimated completion times based on the size of your project, using a large, open design. Keep in mind the density of your quilting as well as your experience level should both be factored in when reserving your time. We need to have an idea of what size quilt you are bringing and how complex a design you will be longarm quilting so we can schedule your time.

What if I can't finish in one session?

If no one is scheduled after your session, you may extend your time as needed and within our regular business hours. Because of the zippered leaders, it's easy to zip off and pick back up another day.

What if I can't make my reserved time?

It is courteous to other renters to schedule appointments when you are certain they can be kept. If the time has been reserved, but not utilized by the person who reserved it, it is nearly impossible for us to fill that rental space on such short notice, which is why appointments canceled less than 24 hours prior to the start of the appointment are charged a cancellation fee equivalent to 2 rental hours.

Year-round, but especially during our busier times, we prefer that appointments are only booked when they can be kept. We try to reserve cancellations for emergencies only, because it's quite difficult for us to fill cancelled time last minute.

Our busy times include leading up to Graduation, WSQ Quilt Show, and Christmas.

I've taken the class, but it's been so long, I may need help.

If it's been more than two months since your class or more than a year since your last rental session, we will require you to take a short refresher class. The refresher class is $20 and is scheduled to begin 30 minutes prior/including your rental appointment. We will schedule and plan for the refresher, but if it turns out you did not need one, based on performance, we may decide to remove the charge.

What if I can't find time to come rent during your regular business hours?

Renters that have proven their self-sufficiency are welcome to schedule evening rentals with at least 72 hour advance notice, Mondays through Thursdays. Some quilters are ready for this renter perk after just one appointment, but we'll need to see your skills in action first.

What if I am under the age of 18?

We welcome quilters of all ages to join us for their longarm quilting journey. We will just need a user policy signed by a legal parent or guardian. Based on performance, underage renters may be required to be accompanied by a certified renter aged 18 or older.

What if my friend and I want to rent together?

We love the community that comes with quilting and encourage you and your quilting friends to make a day of it. If both people have their own quilt to work on, we have two machines side by side that make it great for a quilty date, but both people must be certified to rent our machines. If you would like to have a guest join you and they are not certified to rent, they will be unable to work on the machines. If there are two certified renters that want to work on one quilt together, the rental hours can only apply to one person in our records.

I've lost my renter packet. Can I get a new one?

We are happy to email you a new PDF version of your packet for free. If you would like us to print a hard copy for you, there is a nominal printing fee of $1.
